Altai Efendiyev

Altai Efendiev has served as the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM) since 2016. A career diplomat and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he brings extensive experience in international economic relations and regional cooperation to the organization.

Prior to his current role, Ambassador Efendiev held several key diplomatic and government positions, including serving as Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Spain and Andorra (2010-2015). His background also includes significant leadership roles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, specifically within departments focused on economic cooperation and development, as well as serving as the Deputy Secretary General of the Permanent International Secretariat of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). Throughout his career, he has been a strong advocate for deepening regional integration, promoting democratic reforms, and strengthening economic ties among the GUAM member states-Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
