Mr. Durmuş Ünüvar

Durmuş Ünüvar has served as Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye since June 2023.

Born in Antalya in 1973, Durmuş Ünüvar graduated from the Maritime Faculty of Istanbul Technical University in 1996 with a degree in Marine Engineering.

He began his professional career at sea, serving between 1996 and 1999 aboard merchant vessels and with Turkish Maritime Lines as an oceangoing watchkeeping engineer and second engineer. He subsequently joined the Undersecretariat for Maritime Affairs, where he held a series of technical and managerial positions, including Port State Control Officer at the İzmir Regional Directorate, Chair of the Ship Survey Board, Harbour Master of Marmaris, Deputy Regional Director, Harbour Master of Çeşme, and Harbour Master of İzmir.

Between 2015 and 2017, he worked in the private sector as a Fleet and Operations Manager. He returned to public service in 2017 as Head of the Department of Sectoral Analysis and Regulation at the Directorate General of Maritime Trade. He later served in senior executive roles as Director General of Maritime Trade and Director General for the Regulation of Maritime and Inland Waters.

In February 2019, he was appointed Acting Director General of Coastal Safety. In October 2019, he was appointed Director General of Coastal Safety and Chair of its Board of Directors, positions he held until his appointment as Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure on 22 June 2023.

He is married, has two children, and speaks English.
