Gaute Sivertsen

Gaute Sivertsen is the Director of the International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) Funds, a position he has held since January 2022. A legal expert by training with a degree from the University of Oslo, he brought nearly 30 years of experience in maritime law and policy to the role.

Before joining the IOPC Funds, Mr. Sivertsen served as the Director of the Maritime Department at the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, where he oversaw regulations regarding maritime safety, security, and seafarer issues. He is a familiar figure to the international maritime community, having represented Norway at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for over two decades and served as the Chair of the 1992 Fund Assembly for ten years. His leadership is currently focused on fulfilling the organization's mandate to provide compensation to victims of oil pollution and managing the strategic direction of the Funds.
