Laurent Parenté

Mr. Laurent Parenté is the Director General of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), assuming office in April 2023. As IMSO's Chief Executive Officer, he oversees the regulation and supervision of satellite communications for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) and worldwide maritime safety.

Prior to leading IMSO, Mr. Parenté built a distinguished diplomatic career representing Vanuatu, serving as its Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and IMSO from 2005 onward. Over nearly two decades in international maritime governance, he held prominent leadership roles, including Chair of the IMO Technical Cooperation Committee and member of the World Maritime University (WMU) Board of Governors. A dedicated advocate for sustainable maritime development and Small Island Developing States, he holds advanced qualifications in Law, International Relations, and International Business.
