Prof. Takeshi Nakazawa

Professor Takeshi Nakazawa is the Executive Director of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), a position he has held since 2012. He also serves as a professor at the World Maritime University (WMU), where he previously held the prestigious Nippon Foundation Chair in Maritime Technology.

A distinguished expert in maritime education and engineering, Professor Nakazawa began his career as a maritime engineer, eventually earning a Chief Engineer's license after seven years at sea. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and extensive research experience at institutions such as the University of Saskatchewan and Kobe University. Throughout his career, he has been a prominent voice in shaping the future of the maritime sector, particularly regarding the impact of automation, artificial intelligence, and autonomous shipping on maritime education and the global seafarer labor market. His work focuses on ensuring that training standards evolve to meet the technological challenges of the modern shipping industry.
